On the last leg, nine of our members accompanied a very challenging eight-mile walk along the Exe Valley today. The start of the walk involved some fairly difficult and slippery terrain, including scrambling over and around lots of fallen logs and trees. Everyone worked as a team to help and support each other. They had fun, felt uplifted and showed that they had more resilience than they had realised.
After a very nice light lunch at a beautiful pub and restaurant next to the Exe at Bickleigh.(just what you need if you’re walking again in the afternoon), we continued on our way, this time on roads. We knew there was a hill coming, but we didn’t realise how steep and how long. Although the going got tough, the tough got going! Again, members worked together to look after each other and to offer support and encouragement.
I am so impressed at how, when faced with problems or difficulties, members come together in support. So very much in the ethos of WATCH.
We would like to thank Amanda Broom, who with her husband Wayne helped with all the logistics of the walk, Jeff Townsend and Julie Bingham for allowing us to join one day of their much larger walk!
We will post very soon how much Julie, Jeff and the members and volunteers have raised for Chard WATCH
