Our vision

Our vision is for all adults (18+) to have the quality peer support they need to build personal resilience and thrive.

What Is peer support?

Peer support is when people with shared experiences come together to support one another. It’s based on mutual understanding, respect, and the belief that people who have “been there” can offer unique insights, encouragement, and hope.

In a peer support setting, individuals who have faced similar challenges—such as isolation, mental health struggles, or difficult life events—share their experiences, listen without judgment, and offer practical and emotional support. This support can happen one-to-one, in groups, or through community-led activities.

Unlike traditional services, peer support is not about one person being the expert. Instead, it’s about learning from each other, building confidence, and creating a sense of belonging.

How peer support helps

Peer support can be life-changing. Here are just a few of the ways it helps:

  • Reduces isolation: Connecting with others who understand what you’re going through can break the cycle of loneliness
  • Builds confidence: Seeing others make progress and sharing your own story can boost self-esteem and self-belief
  • Encourages hope and recovery: Knowing that others have faced similar struggles and found ways to move forward can inspire positive change
  • Fosters belonging and community: Peer support creates safe spaces where people feel accepted, valued, and not judged
  • Promotes empowerment: Rather than being “done to,” members are active participants in their own journey—and often in shaping the support itself.

At its core, peer support is about people helping people, not fixing it for others. It reminds us that we’re not alone—and that healing and growth are possible when we walk alongside each other.

This approach underpins all the work that WATCH does.
