Chard Carnival is renowned for a lot of reasons: the community spirit it encapsulates, a heartfelt sense of fun that rivals the spectacle of theme parks in Paris or Florida, the creative floats and attractions it brings to our postcode, and those delicious hotdogs you always consider buying two of but fear the chap behind the burger will know are both for you.

It’s also known for it’s charitable work and this year was no exception. This time they collected an impressive £3,510 from your mum and dad dropping their change into those collection boxes going round and that little kid throwing his coppers at the traditional ‘blanket’ float – along with other successful forms of fundraising that pre-date the event itself.

In an act so kind we’ve stopped wearing blusher, Andy Chant and the rest of the Carnival Committee have chosen to give £250 of this total to us at The WATCH Project – which is extremely flattering and the kind of thing people receive folder pieces of card for.

Because of this, we would like to offer a very sincere and humble thank you to everyone at Chard Carnival, which just doesn’t feel enough! Charitable acts like this one help us survive and we’re running out of ways to show people gratitude. If Matthew hadn’t forgotten to receive the cheque himself at the Guild Hall last Thursday, we would have liked to have shaken your hands and acknowledged your support in person, but for now we’re limited to a web page which is no substitute.

Thank you so much. You’re all lovely.

[A second thank you is owed to Andy Chant for being so forgiving on the phone! We’re currently working on flowers that Matthew has insisted he pay for out of his own pocket as he genuinely feels quite terrible about missing you last week. His cat Blue, who shot out of the room later that night when Matty starting loudly swearing upon realisation, has yet to receive an official apology.]
