On Thursday the 18th June, Somerset Skills and Learning held a special function at their centre in Chard (Boden Street) where they helped raised money for the WATCH Project.
At the function were a wealth of options to keep visitors entertained. There was music by the Goldies, where people were encouraged to sing, no matter how good or bad; a dance performance by Mean Feet followed a quick lesson with Viv Gordon; a session of yoga, and a raffle — with prizes donated by Numatics, Mrs B’s Sandwiches, and local supermarkets (to name a few). We also had a visit from the Mayor, and the town crier even did the rounds about town!
The WATCH itself provided bodies on the day (for help with teas and coffees) and we also brought some things along to sell for the jumble, like jewelry and birdhouses from the workshop.
£178.30 was made in total, making the day a financial success on top of a superficial one. It was good fun in spite of it’s attachment to the Project, making it doubly rewarding! Rose Mercer (who managed the event) deserves our gratitude for all her hard work.
I’d suggest we get her a cake by way of thanks but there were enough of the things on sale that Thursday, she’s probably sick at the sight of them!
