Special Horses for Special Children

W.A.T.CH has arranged for some of its members to volunteer with the children’s charity Special Horses for Special Children.

Special Horses for Special Children specialises in sensory work and horse play for children and adults struggling with Autism, Asperger’s, neurological disorders and emotional disturbance. They have seen phenomenal results. For more information see http://www.specialhorsesforspecialchildren.com.

A donation of £500, from Jill Shortland OBE County Councillor will cover the transport costs for taking W.A.T.CH members from Chard to the nearby Scrapton Farm, where Special Horses for Special Children is based.

This donation has provided an exciting opportunity for two projects benefitting different areas of the community to work together to help children with learning difficulties.

W.A.T.CH spokesperson, Ashley Harnett, said “We are excited for the chance to help the members get involved in something outside of the project. W.A.T.CH has always been about benefiting the community and empowering its members to achieve. Volunteering with Special Horses for Special Children will be a great chance for our members to build confidence while making sure that another valuable mental health project is able to find the volunteers it needs.”

“We are tremendously grateful to Jill Shortland at the County Council for providing the funds necessary to cover the transport costs associated with this collaboration. Special Horses for Special Children is based outside of Chard and many potential volunteers are unable to attend, we now know that our members will not face this hurdle. Needless to say both organisations will benefit greatly from the chance to work together.”
