Nigel is a long time friend of the Project and we occasionally receive emails from him detailing upcoming volunteering opportunities. These are often particularly well suited to those who enjoy outside work and being around nature.
We recently received the following communication from Nigel:
Tuesday Sept 29th Barrington Hill National Nature Reserve, nr Ilminster We are very much looking forward to returning to this reserve after a long absence. Meet at 9.30am at the meeting point by the layby. See map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?hl=en&mid=1CK7JzFIH0NxPJ02UPtlCpW8Yvr4&ll=50.94914882665229%2C-2.999114732473125&z=17
We shall be clearing scrub regrowth round the pond and the entrance area, clearing a fenceline with handtools and burning up.
We will provide the other tools for the work, but please bring your own mug and refreshments, your packed lunch and working gloves with you. If you are a chainsaw or brushcutter user, you will need your own PPE and you should have attended a refresher course in the last five years.
We need to know in advance if you are planning to attend this task, please let me know.
We shall of course be observing the social distancing rules throughout the day and it goes without saying that if you or anyone in your household is showing symptoms of the Covid virus, then you should not attend. Â
Tuesday October 6th (Oct 7th if the forecast is bad) Wildflower meadow and hedge management in CharmouthWe have been invited by our friend and Butterfly Conservation member Andy Littler to help to put his wildfower garden to bed for the winter. His house and garden have wonderful views over the sea!Map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?hl=en&hl=en&mid=1jWWWKU-STrw9s9NykgqMDNjqOiY7BIAP&ll=50.736857658152324%2C-2.909742959570698&z=20There are areas of wildflower meadow that will need cutting and raking off and some straightforward tree work. Our hosts are going to provide lunch and other refreshments for us.
Numbers will be limited to 6 or 8, and we need to know in advance who will be attending. Please let me know if you are interested.
We will make sure we observe social distancing rules in line with the latest Covid 19 guidance from the government and it goes without saying that if you or anyone in your household is showing symptoms of the Covid virus, then you should not attend.
Please let him know if you might be interested in lending a hand.
