Since the summer of last year, our members have been busily working away at our Thursday Project art table, under the guidance of artists Jenny and Rebecca, in order to produce artwork to be incorporated into the Banners of Chard project.
Banners of Chard is a project organised by @somersetartworks and lead by artist Jenny Mellings. It’s aim is to bring together various local organisations, including schools and community groups, in order to work on a series of banners which celebrate the people and places of Chard.
After 14 workshops spanning the best part of a year, our members finally got to see the results of their hard work this past Friday, when the banners were unveiled in a ceremony at the Guildhall, which formed part of the weekend’s Culturally Chard events.
At the ceremony, WATCH members received a special mention and round of applause for their contribution, and we could spot many of their brilliant creations incorporated into the finished banners.
We’d like to congratulate everyone who took part in this fantastic project for their outstanding hard work and creativity! We think the banners look amazing, and we thoroughly recommend that, should the opportunity present itself, you pop into the Guildhall, where the banners are currently on display, to view them for yourselves.
